HR 213 – Understanding EPLI and The Claims Process
This course provides information about Employment Practices Liability Insurance, reviews national and California historical trends for employment claims, discusses the economic and soft costs of employment claims, reviews the claims process, and provides best practice recommendations to prevent employee claims and what to do after an employee files a claim against your charter school. This course was prepared in July 2026.

Jamie provides HR consulting, and the CharterSAFE risk management team actively seek to educate and train members on best practices for safety and risk management. Jamie’s strong leadership in personnel management, employee benefits, HR strategy, and expertise in school finance and operations, is demonstrated with her having a degree in Business Administration, a PHRca from the HR Certification Institute, and in her previous role as CBO having earned USC’s School Business Management Certificate. Jamie offers a collaborative, solutions-driven approach to supporting charter schools and their teams.
Karla Ksan

With more than 25 years of Human Resources experience, Karla has a broad range of expertise in employee relations, compliance, benefit (health and retirement) administration, performance management, training and development, recruiting, compensation and payroll administration. Karla has a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, and has SPHR, PHRca, SHRM-SCP from the Society for Human Resources Management and Human Resources Certification Institute.
